U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a one-time payment of $1,776 for approximately 1.45 million active-duty American service members, a measure he labeled the “Warrior Dividend.”

The announcement was made during an 18-minute televised address to the nation, in which Trump stated that the checks have already been issued and are expected to arrive before Christmas.

Symbolic Amount Linked to U.S. Independence

The $1,776 figure deliberately references the year 1776, when the United States declared independence from Great Britain. According to Trump, the payment is intended to honor the founding of the nation and recognize the role of the armed forces.

No one deserves this more than our military,” Trump said, describing the measure as a tribute to both national history and military service.

Funding and Cost

The total cost of the initiative is estimated at $2.57 billion, which Trump said would be financed partly through customs tariffs and partly through the legislation known as the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” signed on July 4, Independence Day.

Economic Claims and Political Context

In his address, Trump also highlighted what he described as strong economic performance under his administration, placing blame for the high cost of living on Democrats and former President Joe Biden.

He claimed that prices are falling rapidly, despite official economic data indicating that inflation reached 3% in September, while consumer confidence has declined in recent months.

The announcement comes amid broader political debates over economic stability, defense spending, and election-year messaging, with critics questioning the timing and fiscal implications of the initiative.
