The Transmission System and Market Operator of Kosovo (KOSTT) has stated that during the winter season it is facing a significant increase in electricity consumption, particularly during peak hours. According to KOSTT, compared to last year, electricity demand has increased by 14.33 percent, while the maximum load reached 1,468 MW yesterday.
“This occurred under conditions when temperatures were not particularly low, which indicates that consumption may rise even further during colder days,” KOSTT said.
KOSTT has called on citizens, public institutions, and businesses to take practical measures to help reduce consumption and relieve pressure on the power system.
“These measures include more careful use of electrical appliances, shifting consumption outside peak hours, and using electricity as efficiently as possible overall,” the statement said.
The highest electricity demand is recorded during the time intervals 16:00–20:00 and 22:00–23:00.
According to system data released by KOSTT, in recent days the areas with the highest load have been the substations Rahovec (including the Malisheva area), Prizren 1, Gjilan 1, and Lipjan.
“In these areas, increased caution and cooperation from citizens are required to avoid overloads and to maintain a stable electricity supply. Operating the system under overload conditions may necessitate the implementation of controlled and temporary supply reductions as a necessary technical measure to protect substations and critical assets of the power system, which ensure electricity supply,” KOSTT announced.
“In such cases, citizens are kindly advised to disconnect electrical appliances from the grid until supply is restored, in order to protect their equipment and enable the fastest and safest possible return to normal electricity supply.”
