Following an analysis of data obtained from international archives, with the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Governmental Commission on Missing Persons (GCMP) has initiated search activities at a site in the Rahovec region, known in cadastral records and by the local community as “Përzhina,” located near the town cemetery.
According to operational plans, excavations began on Wednesday, during which two bone fragments were discovered and sent for examination to the Institute of Forensic Medicine. On Thursday, mortal remains of at least one individual were found, which may belong to victims of the war who are listed among the missing persons.
The excavations are being carried out by the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the Sector for the Investigation of Persons Missing During the War within the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes of the Kosovo Police, and the Governmental Commission on Missing Persons.
“In this context, as this site represents the final location addressed within the framework of assessment excavations planned for 2025, we inform you that on 19 December 2025, starting at 11:00 a.m., there will be a media briefing regarding the progress to date of the search activities at this site and other locations,” the statement reads.
