The Prishtina Municipality decided in an extraordinary assembly session today to grant the use of 5,288 public properties.

Assembly member Jeta Rafuna highlighted that the move is significant for public property management and the economic development of the capital, adding that it could increase the municipality’s own revenues.

PDK assembly member Leotrim Retkoceri expressed hope that the list of properties complies with all legal requirements.

However, PSD member Besa Shahini criticized the municipality for large-scale mismanagement of public property in Prishtina, stating that the damage caused amounts to over €200,000.

LVV assembly member Gëzim Sveçla warned that if the list is not approved, the municipality will be unable to grant any properties next year. He criticized the procedure, saying that submitting a list of over 5,288 properties in an extraordinary session without complete documentation is improper.

Sveçla added that assembly members are not mere voting machines and should not approve properties without knowing the owners or current users. He also raised concerns that the decision could enable illegal actions or be used as leverage against citizens who built on some of these lands.

Highlighting specific concerns, Sveçla noted that the list includes 17 plots where the luxury neighborhood ‘Marigona’ was built for sponsors of Rama, suggesting this could be an attempt to legitimize the misuse of public property.
