During a commemorative session marking the anniversary of the Reçak Massacre, the Municipal Assembly of Shtime awarded Ambassador William Walker the honorary title of “Lifetime Citizen of Shtime.”

According to the municipality, the title recognizes Walker’s extraordinary contribution to revealing the truth about the January 15, 1999 massacre and his enduring connection with the town of Shtime and its residents.

During the ceremony, Rrahman Jakupi, chairman of the Municipal Assembly, highlighted that the honor is an institutional gesture of gratitude and a permanent sign of respect for Walker’s role in documenting the crimes committed in Reçak and informing the international community.

“Ambassador Walker is part of our history and of our truth. Today, the Municipality of Shtime opens its doors and heart to him forever—as a citizen of our people, a witness to the truth, and a devoted friend of Reçak,” Jakupi said.

The title of “Lifetime Citizen of Shtime” represents the highest ceremonial honor granted at the municipal level and is reserved for figures who have made a historic, moral, and humanitarian impact on the community.
