Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) announced that it is currently operating with five electricity generation units, producing power at maximum operational capacity and ensuring stability in the country’s energy system.

According to a KEK media statement issued on January 15, 2026, the company’s daily gross electricity production exceeds 20,000 megawatt-hours (MWh).

Successful Synchronisation of Units

KEK confirmed that Unit A4 was restarted during the evening hours and successfully synchronized with the power grid in the early morning, while the parallel and timely return of Units B1 and A4 demonstrated the high professional capacity of KEK’s technical and managerial staff, as well as accurate operational planning and efficient rehabilitation management.

“The successful parallel return of Units B1 and A4 within an optimal operational timeframe proves the professionalism of KEK’s technical and management teams, precise operational planning, and efficient handling of rehabilitation processes,” the statement said.

Increased Production During Cold Weather

KEK explained that it normally operates with four production units, but a fifth unit is activated during periods of low temperatures to meet increased electricity demand.

As a result of this operational model, the system is currently functioning at full capacity, reflecting technical stability, operational security, and maximum production performance, KEK emphasized.

Previous Power Reductions Addressed

On January 13, 2026, the Transmission System and Market Operator (KOSTT) announced temporary electricity reductions on January 13 and 14, citing a significant discrepancy between energy nominations and actual consumption.

Energy nominations refer to forecasts made one day in advance by KESCO, the company responsible for electricity supply, estimating expected consumption for the following day.

However, in a subsequent statement on January 14, 2026, KOSTT confirmed that the energy situation had improved, following increased electricity production by KEK.
