UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a telephone conversation on Saturday with US President Donald Trump, during which he stressed that imposing tariffs on NATO allies over the Greenland issue is a mistake, according to a spokesperson for the British prime minister.

“The Prime Minister reiterated his position on Greenland, stating that security in the High North is a shared priority for all NATO allies, aimed at safeguarding Euro-Atlantic interests,” the spokesperson said.

Starmer further emphasized that applying tariffs against allies for pursuing NATO’s collective security objectives is wrong, underlining the importance of unity within the Alliance at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions.

The spokesperson added that, on the same day, Starmer also held discussions with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as part of broader diplomatic efforts to coordinate allied positions on Arctic security and transatlantic relations.
