Hackers disrupted satellite broadcasts of Iranian state television to air footage supporting Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi in exile and calling on security forces not to turn their weapons against the people.

The cyberattack occurred amid ongoing protests, which activists say have left at least 3,919 people dead.

The footage aired on multiple channels transmitted by the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), the state monopoly for television and radio. The broadcast included:

  • Clips of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi in exile
  • Footage of Iranian security forces

Graphics displayed during the broadcast read:

“This is a message for the army and security forces: Do not turn your weapons on the people. Join the nation for Iran’s freedom.”

In a direct address, Pahlavi stated:

“I have a special message for the army. You are the national army of Iran, not the army of the Islamic Republic. Your duty is to protect your own lives. You don’t have much time left. Join the people as soon as possible.”

The hack represents a significant escalation in the ongoing unrest in Iran, highlighting the role of digital campaigns in amplifying dissent against the regime.
