On Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, the Peace Board formed by U.S. President Donald Trump was officially established.

The board was signed by dozens of countries, although key Western allies of the U.S. were absent.

After the signing, Trump stated that he wants his Peace Board to work in cooperation with the United Nations, despite criticizing the UN for failing to reach its full potential.

“Once this board is fully formed, we can do almost whatever we want to do, and we will do it in cooperation with the United Nations,” he said in Davos.

“I have always said that the United Nations has extraordinary potential. They haven’t used it, but it has extraordinary potential,” he added.

Trump had previously suggested that the Peace Board, which he mainly created to assist in the reconstruction of Gaza, could ultimately replace the UN. However, on Thursday he said he wanted both entities to work in combination, claiming it could result in “something very, very unique for the world.”

Nonetheless, he spoke harshly about the UN’s current performance, claiming it had played little role in mediating conflicts that Trump counts among the so-called wars he believes he has ended.

“For the eight wars I ended, I never spoke with the United Nations, not one of them,” Trump said. “They tried, I think, some of them, but they didn’t try hard enough.”
