Following decisions to recount all polling stations where regular voting took place on December 28 during the snap parliamentary elections, the Central Election Commission (CEC) has clarified which results will be considered final: those produced by the Municipal Counting Centers or those emerging from the ongoing recount process.

CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi explained that it falls within the authority of the CEC to decide on the recounting of polling stations or counting centers. Consequently, the results that will be used in announcing the final election outcomes will be those derived from the recount process.

The decision to recount all polling stations was made after a verification conducted in 33 polling stations, which revealed that the votes for candidates counted at the Municipal Counting Centers did not accurately reflect the votes shown on the ballots.

Meanwhile, the recount process continues at the Counting and Results Center, including on Friday.

“Since January 13, the recounting process has been ongoing at the Counting and Results Center, based on two decisions of the Central Election Commission. This includes the recount of all polling stations, totaling 2,557. From the start of this process until now, more than 50% of the polling stations where regular voting took place on December 28 have already been recounted,” Elezi stated.

According to the first CEC decision, dated January 13, 2026, the recount initially included 914 polling stations. With a second decision on January 19, 2026, an additional 1,643 polling stations were added, expanding the recount to cover all polling stations nationwide.
