Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, when asked about NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte’s comments on Europe’s ability to defend itself, acknowledged that it would be “extremely difficult” given the current situation.

She explained that this is because “when you look at intelligence, nuclear weapons, and so on, we are dependent on the U.S.,” according to AFP.

However, she insisted that “I think we are capable of doing more than is publicly stated at the moment.”

Frederiksen emphasized that Europe’s rearmament should be “the most important thing” for European leaders, adding that setting 2035 as a goal would be “far too late.”
