The head of the City Council of Piana degli Albanesi, Rosario Petta, presented a symbolic gift from Switzerland during a council session.

Petta visited Zurich at the invitation of the center “Genocide in Kosovo – An Open Wound” to attend a commemorative event honoring the victims of the Kosovo genocide. During the session, he showcased the gift he received: a four-petaled poppy, the symbol of the center.

The recognition awarded to Petta highlighted the historical solidarity of the Arbëresh community in Italy, emphasizing:

  • Their support in sheltering survivors of the 1998-1999 Kosovo genocide.
  • Advocacy for Italy’s contribution to NATO’s military intervention, which helped bring an end to the atrocities committed by Serbia against Kosovo Albanians.

The award praised Petta and the Arbëresh community for their exceptional contribution and enduring solidarity during and after the Kosovo war.
