Croatian investigative journalist Domagoj Margetić has issued serious accusations against Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Serbia’s Security Intelligence Agency (BIA), claiming that a coordinated propaganda campaign is being conducted through pro-government Serbian media against the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) in Croatia.
In a statement published on the social platform X, Margetić alleged that BIA bulletins and regime-aligned media outlets in Serbia are actively promoting the idea of abolishing the Serbian Orthodox Church in Croatia, alongside narratives advocating the expulsion of Serbs and the creation of a so-called “Croatian Orthodox Church,” which he described as fascist in nature.
According to Margetić, this campaign is being driven through tabloids and broadcasters closely linked to the Serbian authorities, including Informer, Novosti, Kurir, Alo, Blic, B92, and what he referred to as “the remaining propaganda infrastructure of the BIA.”
“Aleksandar Vučić and his BIA bulletins, through propaganda remnants such as Informer, Novosti, Kurir, Alo, Blic, B92 and other BIA-controlled outlets, are promoting the abolition of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Croatia, the expulsion of Serbs, and the establishment of what they call a ‘Croatian Orthodox Church’ — a fascist, Pavelić-style construct,” Margetić wrote, alongside a video he shared online.
He warned that such narratives are extremely dangerous, arguing that they deliberately inflame ethnic and religious tensions in the region at a time of heightened political sensitivity.
Margetić’s accusations add to growing concerns among journalists and civil society actors about the instrumentalization of media, intelligence structures, and nationalist rhetoric by the Vučić-led regime, not only within Serbia but also in relation to neighboring countries.
