Officials from the European Union reacted to anti-constitutional statements made by Milorad Dodik, president of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD), emphasizing that all political actors, whether in office or not, must refrain from provocative rhetoric and actions that incite division, including challenging the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The EU statement followed Dodik’s speech on 9 February in Banja Luka, where he claimed that Bosnia and Herzegovina “has been ruined” and stated he would not abandon his political goal of pursuing “self-determination up to independence.”

The press office of the European Commission highlighted that the EU remains fully committed to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s perspective as a unified, sovereign, and equal country, and that political actors should focus on the necessary reforms to advance the EU integration process.

Dodik’s statements have also sparked reactions in Sarajevo. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Elmedin Konaković, called for an EU response to these statements and announced that he will send official letters to NATO and EU institutions regarding this matter.
