Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), announced that his party would shift its attention to the upcoming local elections. In a statement, Abdixhiku emphasized that the LDK had already provided a solution and was prepared to proceed once other political entities were ready.

Abdixhiku revealed that he had called a meeting with all branch leaders of the LDK to begin the consultative process for the local elections. He underscored that despite the ongoing political gridlock, the LDK would remain focused on advancing its own agenda, particularly on local elections, which are set to take place in the fall of 2025.

“We will continue our preparations, undeterred by the ongoing blockade and repetitive, meaningless meetings. The LDK will focus on the Local Elections. That’s why I’ve called all our branch leaders to start the preparatory process for the 2025 Local Elections,” said Abdixhiku.

He expressed confidence in the LDK’s strength, citing the party’s recent success in local elections, where they govern 9 municipalities and hold 206 local council seats. Abdixhiku added that the party was entering the process with full commitment and preparation, encouraging potential candidates with integrity and a willingness to serve their communities to join the effort.

“We enter this process with full preparation, as the winner of the last local elections, with 9 municipalities in government and 206 local councilors. We start today with internal consultations for candidates for Municipal Mayors and local councilors, seeking individuals with integrity who are committed to representing our citizens,” Abdixhiku emphasized.

Meanwhile, regarding his proposal for a transitional government, PDK and AAK have responded, signaling a preference for an opposition government instead. Members of Vetëvendosje strongly opposed Abdixhiku’s proposal, launching critiques against the LDK, though the party has not yet issued a formal statement. The political deadlock continues, with the 12th session for the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly also failing to take place.
