The Acting Head of the European Union in Kosovo, Eva Palatova, met this morning with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, to discuss the findings of the EU Election Expert Mission. The meeting focused on the comprehensive report compiled following the country’s most recent local and parliamentary elections.

Central to the discussions was the report’s emphasis on the necessity of depoliticizing the Central Election Commission (CEC). The EU representatives highlighted the critical role the CEC plays in acting as an independent guarantor of electoral integrity, suggesting that reducing political influence within the commission is essential for future democratic processes.

According to an official communique, the meeting served as a platform to review the mission’s recommendations aimed at strengthening Kosovo’s electoral framework. Both parties acknowledged the importance of aligning local electoral standards with international best practices to ensure transparency and public trust in the voting system.

The presentation of these findings is part of the ongoing dialogue between the European Union and the Kosovo government regarding institutional reforms and the advancement of democratic governance.
