Following the meeting with President Vjosa Osmani, the US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, expressed that the US is concerned about what happened yesterday at the Serbian border.

Ambassador Hovenier emphasized in particular that he is concerned about the detention of the deputy director of the Kosovo Police, Dejan Jankoviq.

“The recent case is concerning to us, with Mr. Jankoviq being detained by Serbian authorities, and I am particularly concerned about this issue, as someone we have known for years, and have assisted in the integration of Serbian communities into the Kosovo Police, regardless of ethnicity, and the role they have played and continue to play in the Kosovo Police. We are particularly concerned about Mr. Jankoviq’s detention,” Hovenier told reporters.

Regarding President Osmani’s request for international reaction to this issue, Hovenier said that the US agrees with the European Union’s statement.

Hovenier called for all agreements from the dialogue process to be implemented.

“We continue to work with the European Union and are engaged in the dialogue process and we want these agreements to be implemented. The EU’s statement is clear, it’s not that we disagree with the EU’s statement. We seek the implementation of all agreements and we continue to work together,” the US Ambassador told reporters.
