Austria has declared three Russian diplomats persona non grata due to a “forest of antennas” on the roofs of diplomatic buildings that could be used for espionage, the Austrian government announced on Monday (04.05.2026), Reuters reports.
“It is unacceptable for diplomatic immunity to be used to carry out espionage,” said Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger in a statement, confirming that the three diplomats had already left the country.
So far, Austria has expelled a total of 14 Russian diplomats since 2020.
