All political parties registered in Kosovo are required by the Central Election Commission of Kosovo to declare whether they will participate in the early parliamentary elections scheduled for June 7, 2026.
KQZ spokesperson Valmir Elezi told local media that parties must also inform the commission within the set deadline if they plan to run as part of a coalition.
“All political parties registered in Kosovo are obliged, within a 7-day period—from May 1 to May 7—to notify the KQZ of their participation or non-participation in the early elections for the Assembly of Kosovo. This obligation applies only to the 53 political parties currently listed in the political party register, and not to political entities intending to run as civic initiatives or independent candidates,” Elezi stated.
He further emphasized that May 7 is also the deadline for parties to notify the KQZ if they intend to participate in elections through a coalition.
“According to the Law on General Elections, political parties registered with the KQZ that wish to participate in early elections through a coalition must notify the KQZ, specifically the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control of Political Entities. The deadline for this notification is May 7, 2026. A coalition must consist of at least two political parties, and by law, a party cannot withdraw from a coalition once it has been certified until the election results are certified by the KQZ. Additionally, a political party that is part of a coalition cannot simultaneously be part of another coalition or run independently in the same elections,” he said.
