China has expressed regret over India’s recent military actions against Pakistan and voiced concern over escalating tensions. A spokesperson from China’s Foreign Ministry told CNN:
“India and Pakistan are neighbors that cannot be relocated, and both are also neighbors of China.”
As the India-Pakistan conflict intensifies, China finds itself in a diplomatic dilemma.
Beijing has been closely monitoring the situation, caught between long-standing ally Pakistan—often called China’s “iron brother”—and regional rival India, with whom China shares a history of border disputes.
This spike in tension comes as China has been seeking to improve relations with India, as part of a wider diplomatic effort to strengthen ties with neighbors and counter mounting pressure from the Trump administration.
Meanwhile, Pakistan remains one of China’s closest allies and a critical backer of its Belt and Road Initiative. China is also Pakistan’s largest arms supplier, providing 81% of Pakistan’s arms imports in the past five years, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
China has thus far called for maximum restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation.
