Chaos and tension engulfed Sarajevo East tonight as heavily armed special forces from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska (MUP RS) and members of Milorad Dodik’s personal security stood guard around the president’s car after officers from the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) attempted to arrest him.

Earlier, SIPA agents arrived at the Government of Republika Srpska Administrative Center, where Dodik was located, with an arrest warrant issued by the Bosnian and Herzegovinian Court. However, their efforts were blocked by MUP RS officers, who protected the individual against whom the court order had been issued.

This development raises serious concerns about the rule of law in Bosnia and Herzegovina, highlighting how police forces in Republika Srpska seem to operate under political influence rather than adhering to national laws.

The situation underscores the political loyalty of authorities in Republika Srpska, who continue to prioritize allegiance to Milorad Dodik over the country’s legal system. In addition to Dodik, arrest warrants were issued for Prime Minister Radovan Višković and National Assembly President Nenad Stevandić, further indicating the deepening legal and political crisis in the region.

Earlier today, Dodik had attended the gasification project launch in Šekovići before heading to the administrative center in Sarajevo East for a meeting with local leaders, where he encountered the attempted SIPA arrest. However, the police force allowed him to remain untouched, at least for the time being.
