U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will extend the current ceasefire with Iran, while continuing the blockade of Iranian ports.
In a statement shared on social media, Trump said the decision came following a request from Pakistan’s leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
According to Trump, the move is intended to give Iranian leaders time to present a unified proposal for negotiations.
“Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is heavily divided, and at the request of Pakistan’s leadership, we have been asked to delay our attack until their representatives can come forward with a unified proposal,” Trump stated.
He added that he has instructed the U.S. military to continue enforcing the blockade and remain fully prepared.
“We will extend the ceasefire until such time as their proposal is presented and discussions are concluded, one way or another,” Trump said.
The decision signals a temporary de-escalation in tensions, though the continuation of the blockade indicates that pressure on Tehran remains in place as negotiations are awaited.
