Prime Minister Edi Rama was honored today by the President of Israel with the Presidential Medal, the highest civilian honor of Israel.

This award is given to prominent global figures in politics, and in this case, it is a tribute to the example that Albanians set for the world by not handing over any Jews, as well as for their religious and ethnic tolerance.

During a joint press conference, the President of Israel expressed gratitude for the Albanian people and Prime Minister Rama for their support of the Jewish people, reports Top Channel.

“It is a great honor to welcome you to the presidential residence and to give you the Presidential Medal of Honor of Israel, the highest civilian order of Israel. This medal honors those like you who have illuminated the world with exceptional leadership, demonstrating courageous friendship with the Jewish people.”

“The Albanian code of honor, the sacred vow of integrity, is felt in this hall. The code of honor guided the Albanian nation during the Holocaust, as Albanians became symbols of dignity and courage by providing shelter to Jews fleeing from other parts of Europe. This call for integrity and honor of your people echoes strongly in your leadership,” said President Isaac Herzog.
