The European Parliament’s reporter for Serbia, Tonino Picula, has stated that Serbia is in an unofficial state of emergency following the recent tragedy that left the 16th victim dead in Novi Sad.
He emphasized that this incident would further raise questions and mass protests in Serbia, placing significant pressure on the Serbian government to take responsibility for the situation.
“The death of the 16th victim from Novi Sad, in my opinion, will once again raise all the questions that triggered mass protests in Serbia, and this is the responsibility of those who caused the tragedy. All roads, of course, lead to the door of the authorities, who clearly have not responded positively to the demands of all those protesting in the streets and squares of Serbia. We can say that Serbia is in an unofficial state of emergency,” said Picula.
He accused Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić of trying to divert attention from responsibility by focusing it on “external enemies.”
Regarding the internal crisis in Serbia and the surrounding countries, Picula stated that Croatia should consider the impact of the situation on its eastern and southeastern borders.
