Nemanja Đuran, the former head of the Criminal Police Directorate (UKP), was detained today for an informative interview by law enforcement authorities. The interrogation is part of an expanding investigation into the gangland murder of Aleksandar Nešović (known as “Baja”), which took place on May 12 in the Belgrade neighborhood of Senjak.
According to a report by Blic, investigators brought Đuran in after establishing that he had allegedly been in communication with the primary suspects on the night of the murder. Đuran had failed to voluntarily report these phone calls to the authorities handling the case. Following the informative talk, he was released from police custody.
The Senjak Assassination: Targets and Suspects
The victim, Aleksandar Nešović Baja, had long been linked by law enforcement intelligence to the notorious “Keka’s Group,” a prominent Belgrade criminal clan. He was gunned down six days ago inside a restaurant in Senjak.
The Higher Public Prosecution in Belgrade has officially issued an Order to Conduct an Investigation, detailing the complex web of co-conspirators, executioners, and high-level accessories facing charges:
The Primary Perpetrators
- Saša V. (48) and Mario S. (46): Charged as co-perpetrators with Aggravated Murder in conjunction with the Unauthorized Production, Possession, Carrying, and Trafficking of Weapons and Explosive Materials, as well as Causing General Danger.
- Danka V. (42): The wife of one of the main suspects, charged with the Unauthorized Production, Possession, Carrying, and Trafficking of Weapons and Explosive Materials.
The Institutional and Logistics Cover-up
- Veselin M. (46), Boban M. (41), Savo S. (33), and Petko P. (46): Charged with Failure to Report a Crime and Its Perpetrator along with Aiding a Perpetrator After the Commission of a Crime. (Note: Veselin M. refers to the recently detained Belgrade Police Chief, Veselin Milić).
- Vuk Š. (21): Charged with both Failure to Report a Crime and Aiding a Perpetrator After the Fact.
- Nenad L. (50): Charged exclusively with Failure to Report a Crime and Its Perpetrator.
- Dejan S. (50): Charged with Aiding a Perpetrator After the Commission of a Crime.
The widening scope of the investigation—now pulling in former and current top-tier police officials like Nemanja Đuran and Veselin Milić—points toward deep institutional fractures and potential collusion between high-ranking police structures and Belgrade’s criminal underground.
