Former Dutch ambassador to Kosovo, Robert Bosch, has called on political leaders in the country to reach a compromise on the issue of electing a new president, warning that failure to do so could deepen the current political stalemate.

In his remarks, Robert Bosch stressed that holding new elections would not resolve the situation, arguing that the political landscape would likely remain unchanged if parties continue to refuse to move from their positions.

“It would be unfortunate if Kosovo cannot elect a president, and new elections will not improve the situation, as it will likely remain similar if parties are again unwilling to compromise. For the good of the country: compromise!” he stated.

The Assembly of Kosovo has until April 28 to elect a new head of state. If lawmakers fail to reach an agreement within the deadline, the country will head to new elections.

So far, political parties have not managed to find common ground on the issue, raising concerns about potential institutional deadlock in the coming days.
