The German Embassy in Kosovo has officially announced the election of Friedrich Merz as Germany’s new Chancellor. The announcement came 72 days after the national elections, with Merz formally appointed by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

In a statement, the embassy emphasized Merz’s extensive experience in politics, highlighting his pragmatic approach and vision for the future. The statement also underscored Merz’s solid background in both the public and private sectors, including his education in law and economics.

Friedrich Merz has decades of experience in both politics and the private sector. Known for his pragmatic approach and forward-looking vision, Merz began his parliamentary career in 1989 and has built a distinguished career at both the European and national levels. Born in the picturesque Sauerland region, he combines traditional values with a modern vision for Germany’s future,” the embassy’s statement read.

Merz secured the necessary majority in the second round of voting in the Bundestag on Tuesday, receiving 325 votes, surpassing the 316 votes required to be elected. This was a second attempt, following a narrow failure in the first round, where Merz fell short by only 6 votes.
