During a ceremony organized by the embassies of France, Germany, Italy, the UK, and the European Union, Kosovo today commemorated the third anniversary of the start of the war in Ukraine. French Ambassador to Kosovo, Olivier Guerot, addressed the event by calling on both Kosovo and Serbia to return to dialogue and implement the Agreement towards normalizing relations.
“The situation in Kosovo cannot be separated from the broader security landscape of our continent. Therefore, I urge Kosovo to prioritize coordination and dialogue for the sake of their state and the entire continent,” said Ambassador Guerot, according to the Radio Free Europe (RFE).
Reflecting on the three-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine, Guerot emphasized that Ukraine’s fight for freedom is integral to Europe’s security. “This war is of great importance for the security of Europe. The future of our continent’s security, and the international order, is at risk because Russia may not stop there if Ukraine surrenders. Therefore, we must continue supporting Ukraine financially and militarily,” he added.
While discussions for peace in Ukraine have intensified in recent days, Guerot warned that any talks about Ukraine must include Ukraine, and discussions on European security cannot proceed without European input. “A ceasefire without security guarantees for Ukraine would be dangerous. We want a sustainable, long-term peace, not a fragile ceasefire,” said Guerot, urging the increase of defense spending and capacity in Europe.
