Richard Grenell, the Special Envoy for Special Missions under U.S. President Donald Trump, has criticized the allocation of billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the Western Balkans, claiming they promote radical policies.
In a post on X, Grenell shared data from Kos_data, which shows that between 2020 and 2024, Kosovo received the highest amount of USAID funding in the Balkans—$537 million.
He accused U.S. politicians of reckless spending, stating:
“Hardworking Americans pay taxes, and politicians in Washington, D.C., waste that money. Billions are given to left-wing NGOs to push radical policies in other countries.”
The statement reflects the Trump administration’s intensified scrutiny of U.S. foreign aid, particularly funding directed toward NGOs and civil society initiatives.
