The Kosovo Police is carrying out an inspection in one of the units of the so-called “Postal Savings Bank” (Banka Postanske Stedionica) in North Mitrovica. This is because a safe has remained in it without being checked, as today (29.05.2024 ) police officials have started to check it.
The news were confirmed by the deputy director of the Kosovo Police for the North Mitrovica region, Veton Elshani.
“In one of the 6 locations that we have already raided, there was a sef (safe) left unchecked because we did not have the key. Today we received the key and checked this safe as well. There is no new development of the situation, but we have already dealt with a place that we already have under control” – said Elshani. On 20.05.2024, the police carried out an action in the north, in which case they closed six units of the so-called “Bank Postal Savings”.
According to a press release, this operation resulted in the confiscation of various material evidence such as around 1.6 million euros, over 74 million dinars (around 630 thousand euros), over 19 thousand francs and over 13 thousand US dollars. “The police operation carried out in the north of the country, where six illegal units of the so-called ‘Postal Savings Bank’ were closed, also resulted in the confiscation of various material evidence such as; About 1,600,000 euros, About 74,700,000 dinars, About 19,500 francs, About 13,800 US dollars, About 40 Australian dollars. The police said that six subsidiaries of the so-called “Postal Savings Bank” in the north of the country have been closed and official signs for their closure have been placed in their facilities, while all further police actions will be carried out in cooperation and coordination with the authorities of justice. The Central Bank of Kosovo announced on 13.05.2024 that it has concluded the three-month transitional period for the simplified implementation of the regulation on cash operations, which prohibits the use of the Serbian dinar for making payments. The CBK says that it has licensed eight branches of financial institutions in municipalities with a Serbian majority, in Leposaviq, Zveçan, Graçanicë, Shtërpcë and one in Shillovë in Gjilan. of the Serbian dinar for making payments.
Regarding the issue of the Serbian dinar, the delegations of Kosovo and Serbia have also held meetings in the past, which ended without any progress. With the CBK Regulation, the euro has been designated as the only currency in Kosovo for making payments.
