Investigations into suspected mass graves in the Zubin Potok area have expanded to a third location, with EULEX experts moving to a newly secured site in the village of Kalludër e Vogël.
A security perimeter has been established at another location in the area, where vehicles belonging to Kosovo authorities have also been deployed. The site, located deeper in the Zubin Potok area between Jabukë and Kalludër e Vogël, became the third investigation site on Wednesday amid suspicions that another mass grave may be located there.
Human remains believed to belong to Albanian civilians killed during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war were discovered days earlier at sites in Jabukë and Kalludër e Vogël.
However, Kosovo’s Special Prosecution has not provided details on the findings from the newly identified location.
The prosecution confirmed on Tuesday that investigations were underway at the third site, saying that the responsible prosecutor was present alongside investigators from the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes and forensic experts.
“Investigations are currently continuing at a third location. The responsible prosecutor was at the scene together with investigators from the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes and forensic experts to oversee the investigative actions,” the Special Prosecution said.
It added that, due to the sensitive stage of the investigation, no further information could be released at this time and that additional details would be made public when doing so would not compromise the investigation.
Three people have so far been arrested in connection with the investigations on suspicion of committing war crimes against the civilian population.
The latest developments come amid an expanding investigation into suspected burial sites in Zubin Potok, where authorities are searching for the remains of civilians who disappeared during the Kosovo war.
