An adviser to the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament has rejected the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump to extend the ceasefire, saying it “means nothing” and that Tehran should respond militarily.

Mahdi Mohammadi, a senior adviser to Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said that “the losing side cannot dictate terms” and described the continuation of the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports as a “siege” that “is no different from bombing,” according to BBC, as reported by Rks News.

As a sign of Tehran’s distrust toward Washington, Mohammadi accused Trump of extending the ceasefire as a “maneuver to buy time for a surprise attack,” adding that “the time has come for Iran to take the initiative.”

Ghalibaf, the Speaker of Parliament and a long-standing political figure in the country, led the first round of negotiations with the United States in Islamabad and was expected to face U.S. Vice President JD Vance in a second round of talks, which were initially delayed and later postponed indefinitely.
