U.S. Vice President JD Vance has rejected claims that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, but expressed deep concern over the lack of empathy from some right-wing supporters toward the suffering of the Palestinian people, according to Rks News.
“I watch these videos, I see these images, and it’s truly heartbreaking,” Vance said during an interview on This Past Weekend, a podcast hosted by comedian Theo Von.
Vance stated that the Trump administration is trying to address two complex issues simultaneously: providing aid to Palestinian civilians and ensuring the release of Israeli hostages. He dismissed the term “genocide” in reference to the conflict, saying, “I don’t believe the Israelis are deliberately trying to go in and kill every Palestinian.”
Meanwhile, podcast host Theo Von described the situation in Gaza as “genocide” and voiced concern over U.S. military support for Israel. Vance responded carefully, defending the administration’s efforts to reach a temporary solution to the conflict.
He also criticized certain voices in the pro-Israel and Republican camps for attacking U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, calling the backlash “unfair and unrealistic.”
