The constituent session of Kosovo’s 9th legislature was suspended today after nearly two hours of proceedings, as Members of Parliament failed to pass the first item on the agenda: approval of the Temporary Commission’s report on the verification of mandates and quorum.

In an official statement, the Assembly announced that the session was interrupted following a failed vote on the commission’s report, and after consultation with party representatives, it was decided to notify the President for further steps.

“The report received 52 votes in favor, 46 against, and 11 abstentions,” the statement reads.

Also present during the session were ambassadors and representatives of diplomatic missions, highlighting the international community’s interest in Kosovo’s political developments.

The session was chaired by Avni Dehari (VV), the oldest MP in the legislature, assisted by Sala Jashari (PDK), the youngest MP.

The session was further complicated by a dispute over resignations: the PDK and LDK parties refused to accept the resignations submitted by outgoing Prime Minister Albin Kurti and other government members who had been elected as MPs. Kurti accused the opposition parties of launching an “intra-institutional attack.”

Had the report been approved, MPs were expected to take their oaths and elect the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly.
