The Chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Memli Krasniqi, has called on the Government of Kosovo to address the persecution of KLA (Kosovo Liberation Army) veterans and the fundamental rights of Albanians in North Macedonia at the upcoming joint meeting with the Government of North Macedonia on Monday.
In a Facebook post, Krasniqi criticized Prime Minister Kurti’s government for not including these two issues on the agenda of the meeting.
“The arrest of KLA veterans in North Macedonia, as happened earlier this year, is unacceptable and damages our bilateral relations. The Government of Kosovo must insist that such cases, which are happening now under the new government in North Macedonia, should not be repeated. Today, no KLA veteran is safe to cross the border into North Macedonia due to the risk that this country will enforce arrest warrants from Serbia against freedom fighters,” he wrote.
Further, the PDK leader Memli Krasniqi demanded that the Government of Kosovo, especially the Albanian politicians who are part of the Government of North Macedonia, raise their voices and engage to ensure that the use of the Albanian language is not hindered anywhere.
“Until these urgent issues are properly addressed, other points on the agenda risk being overshadowed by unresolved grievances of the Albanian people in North Macedonia. True cooperation requires an honest and proactive approach to such challenges, ensuring that the dignity and rights of all citizens are respected and protected without discrimination. Otherwise, joint meetings for political show without substance are of no use to anyone,” he wrote.
Additionally, the PDK leader called for the reinstatement of meetings with Albania.
“However, before any other meetings, Kosovo should restore the good tradition of meetings with Albania, an important practice for inter-Albanian unity and cooperation, which has been interrupted under the current government of Albin Kurti,” Krasniqi wrote.
