Prime Minister Albin Kurti has officially announced the launch of a new digital service for birth registration, marking a significant step toward the digitalization of public services in Kosovo. The initiative was inaugurated Monday at the Gynecology Clinic of the University Clinical Center of Kosovo (QKUK).
In a statement shared on his official social media profile, Kurti emphasized that citizens will no longer be required to navigate multiple government institutions to complete the legal procedures following the birth of a child.
Automation from the Hospital Bed
The new system allows for the digital entry of data for newborns and their parents via tablets directly within the healthcare facility. Once entered, the information is automatically transmitted to the relevant national databases.
“The data is integrated into the healthcare system, the civil registry, benefit schemes for children and mothers, and other relevant institutions,” Kurti explained. “This eliminates the need for physical documents and separate applications for different state services.”
Nationwide Rollout
The digitalization of birth registration follows successful pilot programs in the cities of Gjilan and Ferizaj. Following the launch in Pristina, the government plans to extend the service rapidly to other major centers.
- Current Status: Launched in Gjilan, Ferizaj, and Pristina.
- Next Phase: Prizren and Vushtrri.
- Final Stage: Gjakova, Peja, and the remainder of the Republic of Kosovo.
The Prime Minister framed this update as a vital component of the government’s broader effort to simplify administrative burdens and bring state services closer to the needs of the citizens during major life events.
