Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has publicly disagreed with the IMF’s projection that Mexico’s economy will shrink this year.
“We don’t know what this is based on. We disagree… We have our own economic models, which are developed by the Ministry of Finance, and they do not align with this projection,” Sheinbaum said during a daily press conference.
Earlier this month, the Mexican government forecasted economic growth between 1.5% and 2.3% for 2025, based on a budget proposal from the Ministry of Finance.
However, the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) World Economic Outlook, published today, predicts that Mexico’s economy will contract by 0.3% this year, in contrast to the previous forecast of 1.4% growth, according to a report by BBC.
