The NATO chief said the alliance will soon provide Ukraine with more necessary air defense systems and ammunition.
The alliance has identified existing capabilities across its members and has decided that there are systems that can be made available to Ukraine, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters after a virtual meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
“NATO defense ministers have agreed to increase and offer further military support, including more air defense. So I expect new announcements on air defense capabilities for Ukraine soon,” he said.
In addition to Patriot missiles, there are other weapons that NATO allies can offer, including SAMP/T, according to Stoltenberg.
He also emphasized that defense ministers also addressed other urgent needs of Ukraine, including 155mm ammunition, deep strike precision capabilities, and drones.
“Each NATO ally will decide what it will provide. Some allies made concrete commitments during the meeting and are finalizing contributions that I expect will be announced soon,” Stoltenberg said.
Also welcoming the US Congress on a long-delayed aid package for Ukraine, he said, “I believe the legislation will pass without further delay.”
