Kosovo’s President, Vjosa Osmani, represented the country at the closing event of the NATO Summit in Washington at the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden.
Osmani described Biden’s invitation as a powerful message for Kosovo, emphasizing that it signifies Kosovo’s irreversible path towards NATO and underscores the exceptional importance of the U.S.-Kosovo partnership.
“Kosovo is greatly honored by the White House, particularly by Biden’s invitation to participate in the closing event. This invitation sends a powerful message that Kosovo’s path towards NATO is irreversible, showcasing the tremendous importance the U.S. places on its partnership with Kosovo,” Osmani stated in an interview for the program “FIVE.”
She described this participation as a historic moment for Kosovo.
“Overall, it was a historic participation for Kosovo, demonstrating the commitment of the Alliance and the U.S. to Kosovo,” Osmani continued.
Osmani noted that the U.S. facilitated this for Kosovo, despite Kosovo not being a member of NATO or the Partnership for Peace.
She shared details of her conversation with President Biden.
“We discussed the contributions of his late son, Joe Biden, in the field of rule of law. In addition, during the initial activities of this summit, we talked about the steps we need to take moving forward. The administration has shown a special commitment to maintaining high security levels in Kosovo. President Biden’s personal commitment indicates that the U.S. will continue its unwavering support for our country,” Osmani emphasized.
Osmani mentioned that Biden made every effort to ensure her presence at this summit as president.
“This is a message to NATO skeptics that, with the leading role of the U.S., they saved a people from extermination, and now we are a democratic state. The Biden administration made every effort to ensure my presence as president, demonstrating a special commitment,” she pointed out.
