Kosovo’s National Institute of Public Health (NIPHK) has urged citizens to take extra precautions this weekend as the country is expected to experience high temperatures classified as a moderate-intensity heatwave.
According to the NIPHK, based on forecasts from the Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute, the elevated temperatures may have adverse effects on public health, particularly among the most vulnerable groups.
The institute emphasized that young children, pregnant women, people living with chronic illnesses, and older adults are at the highest risk of heat-related health complications.
NIPHK advised citizens to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day, keep indoor spaces as cool as possible, stay well hydrated, and pay special attention to vulnerable family members and community members.
“Protect yourself from high temperatures: stay out of the heat, keep your home cool, cool your body and drink water, and protect vulnerable people, especially infants and children,” the institute said in its advisory.
