After 25 years, the four northern municipalities of Kosovo—North Mitrovica, Zvečan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavić—will begin paying property taxes in 2025, marking a significant step in their integration into Kosovo’s administrative system.

For the first time since the war, the four northern municipalities of Kosovo—North Mitrovica, Zvečan, Zubin Potok, and Leposavić—will begin receiving property tax bills in 2025.

This announcement was made today by the Minister of Finance, Labor, and Transfers, Hekuran Murati, emphasizing that this move is a crucial step in integrating these municipalities into the Republic of Kosovo’s administrative framework.

The introduction of property tax collection follows the recent full closure of illegal structures across Kosovo’s territory and the institutionalization of public services in the north. Over the past year, the region has seen the opening of cadastre offices, business registration centers, pension and employment offices, and the enforcement of electricity bill payments.

By including property tax collection in the north, the government aims to enhance local infrastructure, increase revenue for municipal investments, and ensure long-term economic stability.
