President Vjosa Osmani has requested that the Government suspend import tariffs on all products from the United States.
According to Osmani, this request was made to send a message that Kosovo is ready for stronger relations with the U.S.
“I am confident that this action will open up new opportunities for job creation, technology exchange, and long-term economic growth,” Osmani wrote further on the “X” platform.
According to her, this is more than an economic action; it is a foreign policy objective, reaffirming Kosovo’s ongoing commitment to the Kosovo-U.S. alliance, built on shared values of freedom and the support that has continued for decades.
U.S. President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on trade partners of the United States, stating that these tariffs will go into effect at midnight (Thursday).
Presenting a graphic during the conference, he emphasized that China “charges” the United States with a 67% tariff, so the U.S. will charge China with a 34% tariff.
In the published lists of countries on which the U.S. has imposed tariffs, Kosovo is listed with a 10% tariff. Other countries in the region also have the same tariff rate: Albania 10%, Montenegro 10%, Serbia 37%, North Macedonia 33%, Bosnia and Herzegovina 35%.
