On Thursday, President Vjosa Osmani formally requested the Government of Kosovo to suspend the 10% tariff imposed on American products. The move comes after U.S. President Donald Trump introduced reciprocal measures, placing Kosovo among dozens of countries facing similar actions, Insajderi reports.

In a post on Twitter, Osmani stated:
“Today, I officially requested the Government of Kosovo to suspend import tariffs on all American products – an important step to deepen our economic ties with our closest ally and to send a clear message: Kosovo is ready for a stronger relationship with the United States, with a clear vision to make both our countries stronger, safer, and more prosperous.”

President Osmani’s call has been met with strong support from senior U.S. officials.

American Congressman Marlin Stutzman reacted positively, calling Osmani’s move a “liberation.” He shared her post on Twitter, voicing support for what he described as an important step forward.

Abraham George, Chairman of the Republican Party in Tarrant County, praised Osmani’s decision:
“For too long, the U.S. has been taken for granted. Tariffs work—they demonstrate strength. But lifting tariffs for nations that seek to work with us reinforces that these are genuine reciprocal measures,” George wrote on Twitter.

Matt Rinaldi, Chairman of the Texas Republican Party, also welcomed Osmani’s request to remove the 10% tariff on U.S. products:
“Reassessing tariffs imposed on countries that choose this path could go a long way in signaling that these are truly reciprocal measures and in supporting the President’s ongoing plan,” Rinaldi posted on platform ‘X.’

Keith Self, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, shared Osmani’s statement and remarked that this leadership should serve as a lesson for European partners:
“This is an extraordinary lesson in leadership that our European partners should take into consideration,” Self wrote.

Additionally, the Albanian American Relations Council (AARC) praised President Osmani’s initiative:
“We congratulate Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani for her leadership in promptly proposing the suspension of tariffs on imports from the U.S. This initiative is a strategic step towards deepening economic ties with the United States and aligns with broader foreign policy objectives,” the AARC said in a statement.
