A strong storm that hit Zagreb today, as well as the Krapina-Zagorje and Sisak-Moslavina counties, caused widespread disruption and hundreds of emergency interventions, with one person sustaining minor injuries.
The Zagreb County Emergency Center received around 250 calls from citizens due to the effects of strong winds and heavy rain, the Civil Protection Directorate confirmed.
Residents reported fallen trees blocking roads and damaging power lines, damaged roofs of houses and commercial buildings, as well as fires breaking out in attic spaces of private homes. One incident involved a tree falling onto a moving vehicle.
City traffic was temporarily disrupted due to the storm. Media reported that strong winds also tore off the roof of the Pliva building, which then fell onto railway tracks. The highest number of reports came from central Zagreb, especially the Tuškanac area, where one person was slightly injured after being struck by a falling branch.
