The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has awarded the “Honor of the Republic of Kosovo” medal to survivors of sexual violence during the last war in Kosovo.
In a ceremony held at the Presidential Office, the medal was awarded to Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman, Shyrete Tahiri-Sylejmani, and Ramadan Nishori survivors who have bravely spoken publicly about the atrocities they endured at the hands of Serbian forces during the war.
President Osmani praised their courage in sharing their painful experiences with the public, emphasizing that their testimonies are of extraordinary importance to justice and the historical truth of Kosovo.
She stated that they are living proof and pillars of Kosovo’s fight for justice.
“There are moments when words are not enough to express gratitude, just as there are people whose courage leaves you speechless. Today, we are here to humbly pay our deepest respect to three individuals who are more than just individuals. Through their pain, they have illuminated the path of truth, justice, and hope. You are the voice that chose dignity—you are the voice for the survivors who chose silence. This is a living promise that history will not forget,” she said.
Honoree Ramadan Nishori expressed gratitude for the support he received from the people:
“I want to thank all of our people who have supported me during these days,” he said briefly.
Vasfije Krasniqi-Goodman called on other victims to speak out and demand justice:
“I want to thank you for your approach and commitment. Dear victims, wherever you are, the time has come to seek justice. Free your soul—we must not forgive Serbia for the crimes it committed,” she stated.
Shyrete Tahiri-Sylejmani emphasized that without justice, there can be no peace:
“When we have justice, we will have peace. Thank you for the courage you give us,” she said.
