Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has reportedly instructed government ministers to begin a process of replacing the heads of institutions under their supervision, as his government faces ongoing protests in Tirana.

According to sources cited by Top Channel, Rama contacted ministers while in Budva, Montenegro, asking them to convene the heads of the institutions under their authority and request their irrevocable resignations.

The decision could be publicly announced by Rama in the coming days. However, it remains unclear whether the reported move is intended to ease protesters’ anger or signals preparations for possible early elections.

In recent media appearances, Rama has strongly criticised the performance of the public administration, warning that officials must be held accountable for failing to meet their obligations to citizens.

A week ago, the prime minister announced possible measures against administrative officials who fail to respond to citizens within the required deadlines or address their concerns.

“When you delay and exceed the deadline, you must bear the consequences. We will ensure this through the ‘Mirror Law’, under which every missed deadline will have an accountable person, and that person will have to bear the consequences,” Rama said.

The reported instruction to ministers comes amid political pressure on the government over the protests in the Albanian capital. No official announcement confirming the reported resignations had been included in the report.
