Vladimir Putin and Ukraine have exchanged 205 prisoners of war from each side on Friday, as part of an agreement linked to a temporary ceasefire earlier this month, reportedly mediated with the involvement of Donald Trump.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence confirmed that the returning Russian soldiers are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving necessary medical and logistical support.
According to Moscow, the exchange process was facilitated by the United Arab Emirates, while Ukrainian authorities also confirmed the return of their own captured personnel.
Earlier this month, both sides reportedly agreed to exchange a total of 1,000 bodies or prisoners under a U.S.-brokered arrangement. The temporary ceasefire, which lasted from 9 to 11 May, was later undermined by mutual accusations of violations from both Moscow and Kyiv.
The latest exchange marks another step in ongoing but fragile humanitarian negotiations amid the continuing war in Ukraine.
