Kyiv came under ballistic missile attack on Friday as explosions echoed across the Ukrainian capital during an air raid alert. The assault triggered multiple fires and left at least eight people injured, according to Ukrainian officials.
A Ukrinform correspondent on the scene reported hearing several powerful blasts.
“In the capital, air defense systems are active. The enemy is attacking the city with missiles,” said Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s Military Administration, urging residents to remain in shelters until the situation was under control.
“Explosions in the capital. The city is under ballistic attack,” wrote Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko on Telegram.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Air Force had warned of the possible use of ballistic weapons launched from the northeast.
Tkachenko confirmed that a kindergarten in the Dniprovskyi district was damaged in the attack. “Eight residents of Kyiv have been injured,” he added, noting that emergency services were working to extinguish fires and assess further damage on the city’s left bank.
The assault comes just days after another combined Russian strike on October 22, which killed two people and wounded 30 others in Kyiv.
