Russia struck Kyiv on Sunday with a barrage of missiles and drones. The powerful overnight attack caused two deaths and more than 56 injuries. Among the targets hit by the wave of Russian missiles on the Ukrainian capital was also the residential complex where the Albanian ambassador in Kyiv lives, putting his life at risk.
In a live connection from Ukraine on A2CNN, Albanian Ambassador in Kyiv Ernal Filo spoke. According to him, the situation is currently “calm because all central and local structures are engaged on the ground to verify the damage and assess how many lives have been lost.”
“So far, it has been confirmed that there are two dead and 28 injured. This is normal. Usually, when there are such massive attacks, the daytime until evening is relatively calm, and the attacks usually occur at night. However, recently there have also been daytime strikes, but in short intervals. During the day, they normally launch drones, which are called reconnaissance drones with cameras, to identify targets they want to strike at night. But in 90% of cases, these operations take place at night until the early hours of the morning,” Filo said.
When asked how it is explained that civilian areas are being targeted, the ambassador responded:
“Russia does not take civilian casualties into account. They target them because they want to create as much pain and despair as possible, so that Ukrainians will eventually become exhausted by this conflict and surrender, accepting the conditions offered by the Russian Federation. However, this is not happening. Ukrainians have no intention of surrendering. They will continue to resist because they are in the right. The Russians continue with offensives and such barbaric attacks that spare no one, not even children.”
