A Eurobarometer survey reveals that the majority of citizens in several EU member states that have not yet recognized Kosovo’s independence are nonetheless in favor of its accession to the European Union.

In Spain, 53% of respondents said they support Kosovo’s European integration, while only 27% oppose it. In Romania, support stands at 52%, with 36% opposed.

Lower levels of support were recorded in Slovakia (46%), Greece (44%), and Cyprus (40%). On average, across the five non-recognizing EU countries, 47% are in favor of Kosovo’s membership, compared to 40% who are against.

The findings are considered surprising, particularly in Spain, where citizens express a more positive attitude toward Kosovo’s EU integration than the overall EU average, which stands at 43%.
